I'm trying to find out what kind of gourd is it that you can put things in. A few years ago someone on big pumpkins had a gourd ( maybe african wine kettle gourds) it was hollow and the person used them for holding seeds. Don't know what the name of them were. Thanks

African wine kettle gourds are like giant birdhouse gourds. Bushell gourds are big and round and make good bowls or storage tubs. Bushell is probibly what you were seeing. Most all gourds are hollow after they dry out. I can get some pics together if you want to see a few different varities.

The bigger the gourd the harder it is to get dry without rotting. You may want to grow a smaller size too. Just my experience. Maybe someone has some drying tips.

to dry them we leave them on the vine as long as possible the plant seems to pull moisture out of the gourd as its dieing. Then we spray them with a 10% bleach solution and place them on pallets with wire around them raised up a few inches. We spray them with the bleach solution about every 2 weeks or so. If you have good airflow around them and keep the rot from starting on the outside you can get alot more to dry. One gourd farm up the road from here raises bushell gourds and they place them in an old barn on dry straw and hay that is just laying in there and they loose very little also. They say that the super dry straw and hay draw the moisture out of them quick so they cant rot. Just my 2 pennys on what works around here.
