Well last year I planted an artichoke. I didn't know you couldn't grow them in Ohio at the time. Well I got it to survive all winter. They like cool summers like last year. Then I have had a snow-cover whenever their was a cold snap all winter. This acted like a mulch and the artichoke lived. Maybe if I plant cactus I will get some good dry weather and sun for my pumpkins this summer. LOL

I have grown them in Vermont as an annual with the right variety (imperial star). The issue is enough cold nights in the spring and hot summer.
