Hi guys, I've notice that a few of you are growing sun flowers. I was wondering how big you have them now? I have grown them for the last 7 years and my tallest was 14 ft tall and had a monster size stalk. My tallest one now is 4 ft tall. They are fun to fool with like pumpkins..hehe

Yes, I have sun flowers too. I put them in for shade for the Giant Pumpkins but they are going the wrong direction to shade them. The sun flowers are about 4' and growing. My tomatoes are about 3' and loaded.

I have some sunflowers that are two feet tall

I have some that are two inches tall

I have some that I planted this afternoon

u can call me shorty now but you just wait...

Last year I had a few that were about 14 feet tall but I planted them earlier. We have really long growing season down here and it only takes them about 90 days to mature, so I am not too late. I will keep you posted on how they are doing.

I planted some bird seed sunflowers last year that got to 10 feet. My tallest corn was 18.5 feet and should have been edible. It turned out to be "cow corn".
This years bird seed sunflowers are 13 inches.

The mammath sunflowers is what I grew last year...
They seem to grow kind of slow at first then they take off. They got to be a real good size, but I am trying the giant grey stripes this year. Does anyone know how they do?

Oh yeah and I thought why fix something that isn't broke I bought some Mammoths to plant tommorrow.

i am considering using sunflowers to shade my pumpkins, but i am wondering if they will compete with the pumpkins for water, fertilizer, etc. does anybody have any experience doing this? thanks.

Last year I had a bird feeder with sunflower seeds loaded in it hanging from a tree in my backyard. A few months later after not checking on it for a while I checked on it and there was a whole bed of sunflowers below the feeder.

My wife and I plant a veggi garden,it seems like every year we get 1 sunflower planted by birds. they grow great and at the end of the season we pic it ,let it dry then hang it in front of the kitchen window about thanksgiveing. the birds flock to it and next planting season we find a new one.
Its like the bird's know where it came from. lol
