The corn doesn't start until a week or so after the tassels appear.

Nic, here in Kentucky when the tassles come out, if you look close the ears is there!!! It is small compared to the tassles, but it is there!!! It's sorta like a pea sized female pkn, compared to a male pkn blossom!!! These weird growth structure (pkns, & corn) seem to bring them selves together at the correct time frame!!!LOL
Pete, my only advice would be...if it aint been rainin, give yer corn a lil water!!! Peace, Wayne

My maize did the same thing. Tassles starting to peek over the top for about a week or so then outta nowhere the ears are here! Is yours rooting like crazy pete? This is my first year at giant maize and there are roots everywhere. I planted these plant almost 7" deep so I know they are planted deep enough. The bottom of my stalks(above ground) have a buttload of roots coming out and reaching to the ground. Almost looks like an octopus. LOL

Billium, I had a tall one last year...17'8"!!! and it too had roots coming outta the stalk over 6" above ground level!!! I wonder if burying those above ground roots would help? Peace, Wayne

Wayne, in the 1940s growers used to box up their plants and add soil as the roots grew above soil. Most of the 25 ft + stalks were grown back then (must have been nice weather in the 40s too...).

Pizza, thanks for the kudo's, and certainly the water dint hurt anything, but I truly think that the secret was just "time" !!! Curious as to what variety it is? Sounds like Silver Queen, but so many new varieties around, makes that a guess!!! My new favorite is "Gotta Have It".(2nd year growin it) Poor germination rate, but best eatin corn I ever have et!!! My 2nd vav, is now Bodacious!!! Eat em up, and be happy!!! Peace, Wayne

Seems I keep ending up with corn with a bad germination rate. Its getting really old having to plant corn more than once to get corn to grow LOL
