Hey folks, Huff here & I'm at my brothers place. I've got 2 cherry trees with ants laying eggs all over them. Does it hurt to put liquid seven on the cherry trees to kill the ants?

Just be sure to read the label for the time you have to wait before the cherries are safe to eat. Don't want to ingest Sevin!

Sevin will thin fruit if you spray when the plant is in flower. And this could be a good thing on some trees. But I can't help but wonder what sort of ants would be a problem on Cherry's. Are you sure the Ant's aren't colonizing Aphids?

Ant's themselves won'[t harm the tree or the fruit in most cases.

Sevin won,t work on ants.It is very tockic to bees and other good bugs. You do want to keep the ants out of your trees. They do bring in aphids. The ants will do damage to your trees by finding weak spots from dead wood and burrowing in. Find something like tanglefoot to put around the base of your trees to keep the ants away. Also the trees limbs must not be touching the fence, house or ground. The ants will use that way to get into your trees

The real question is what are the ants doing in the tree? Are they laying eggs or Farming Aphids? There are alot of Ant Killer powders out there. I cant find my organic dictionary right now to give you the organic control.

I would be inclined to believe they are farming aphids.

Ben I would try to get rid of the ants. They will farm the apihds, and also protect whitefly to. If aphids show up the ants will drive away any good bugs that try to get to the aphids and the whitefly. Greg
