I know you are supposed to pull and split the bulbs a few weeks after blooming but we are thinking about cleaning out a bed and building a new bed in its place.

My question is will I lose all those bulbs or can I transplant them indoors for awhile before moving them to their new bed or just move them?

Do any of you experts know the best way?

I don't see why you couldn't move them now, they are hardy. I had some I didn’t want in a bed and just dug a shallow trench, put them in, put a little soil on them and they grew great. I did this in the fall and didn't take care of them. They bloomed the next summer.

It would be less work to just move them to their location in the new bed. If the new bed is not ready you could hold them indoors for a while. The tricky part with moving indoors is keeping them from drying out or rotting. It certainly would be do-able though. Placing the rhizomes in peat in plastic bags, seems like a good way to me.
On a side note: Having worked in the horticulture field my whole life, I have found the best way to learn about plants is by working with them. (hands on experience) When you talk to "experts" they have many rules and often they don't know the reasons behind them. Book knowledge is great, but nothing beats the experience gained from having done it.
