Hi Catond, I am not sure exactly how long it takes to grow a giant zucchini. I am certain though that the one you set that early will be ready long before october 6th. If you let it fully mature on the vine they do keep for a long, long time. Although the longer you store them the more water weight they will lose in storage. If I were to take a guess I would say a mid-early september pollination for a zucchinni would be about right for the October 6th date. I am thinking one set that late would not get as big as one set in the main part of summer. Nights are much cooler, days are shorter and the overall growth would be much slower. The fruit would probably not attain the massive size that the summer grown ones would. So if it were me I would grow a large one and store it, then grow a september set one and see what happens. : )
