Had some seed sent from the States left USA 31/12/03 yes that is 03 not a typing error and now my good friends at customs New Zealand have got hold of them and wont play nicely I need to have the Genus and Species for them please can somebody help me out before they get destroyed. I think the seeds are even in the seed packet from the company that sells them as the people at customs sent me a photo copy of the packets.

"Capsicum chinense Jacquin"
Family: Solanaceae (sol-uh-NAY-see-ee) Genus: Capsicum (KAP-sih-kum) Species: chinense (chi-NEN-see) Cultivar: Jacquin
You still need to be careful. There are a lot of different cultivars. The customs people might see an inconsistancy in your report & destroy the seeds. So if they have a cute sub-cultivar name, try to use it.

I planted it last year. It had a very slow growth in spring and summer, but in fall the plants were big and full of fruit. The strength is incredible just a fingernail cut of the flesh can drive you to the hospital. I am talking on the Red Savina Hot Habanero, Guiness Book Record for heat. I have them dried waiting for any indian or mexican to arrive to my home.
Ps.: And I love hot peepers.
