I am growing the Burgess buttercup squash for somebody and would like some info from anybody that has grown them or seen them grown. I need to know some info for where I am going to plant them. The info I find on the net is mostly vine length but not a real good read on them. I know they are a bush type with approximately 5 foot vines. Do they grow somewhat circular from stump like a bush? Do side vines come off them like a big squash does? How much sq. ft. area (like 5 x 2 or 3 to 5 ft circle from stump) do they need?

I grow burgess buttercup every year. They are arguably the best tasting squash out there. The Burgess buttercup vine's typically grow considerably more than 5 feet , perhaps you are growing a bush variety? I usually plant them in a row and space the hills 3-6 feet apart and at least 6' between rows. They are the same species as AG's and giant squash and will grow in a similar vine pattern.

Thought it was C. moschata not C. maxima.

Thanks, I am finding a lot of mixed results so that is why I asked. Have found anywhere from 6 ft to 15 ft and it is nice to know what the plant habits are. Too much 1 size fits all info on plants.
