I want to put 10-15 apple trees in the backyard, a little orchard if you will. Anyone know where I can get good info on growing , any books etc....
Thanks,

Ray,
I'm a State certified arborist with a long history of dealing with these things both commercially & in backyard settings.
My first thought is this.....DON'T.
My second thought is.....If you ingnore the first thought, let's talk to the state AG agent that deals with Apple trees & find the most scab resistant variety that exists. We have a thriving orchard industry in CT & there are local resources that will smoke any out of state advice we might get (not knocking anyone here, just being honestly accurate).
If you think keeping Mildew of Pumpkins is challenging, just imagine having to spray 15 trees every week starting at even before bud break forever. That & having to prune them every winter regardless of family & vacation plans makes backyard orcharding in CT less popular every year.
Now that I've been really mean & ticked you off, let's talk. LOL A family over on Chapel St. keeps about 100 trees & turns a good buck selling Apples at the end of their driveway.
