When I do something stupid, I often times feel it necessary to share my pain. And now, for your entertainment, my latest faux pas:

Besides growing AGs, I also can dill pickles. At the suggestion of a friend, I decided to freeze the dill heads at their peak, since I can't seem to get the dill and cucumbers to peak at the same time. I put about 500 dill heads in zip-lock bags in our deep freeze, and now everything in the freezer tastes like dill, which is okay for chicken, but not for ice cream, which we seem to have a lot of.

Now, I have to pose a question here. My first thought was that I should have vacuum sealed the dill heads, but I was also wondering how others out there store their dill?

And if anyone wants some dill ice cream, send a self-addressed, stamped cooler and I'll send you some.

ROTLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt, You know where the local pre-natal offices are. Be a nice fellow & bring the Dill Pickle Ice Cream there. Somewhere is a young father to be that is going insane because his wife & soon to be mama can't find Pickle Ice Cream at the all night convenience store.

Sorry Matt, I've never grown Dill. But I'll ask the Mrs tonight if no one comes up with a solution before then.

I pick my dill heads at their peak and simply tie them together and hang them upside down. If I don't use them this year, I just shake out the seeds for next year's crop! The dried heads may not be "fresh", but as long as the pickles are, they'll work fine.

Note to self - Don't put dill in the freezer

Why not putting dill in the freezer? I had so much dill I hashed it, vacuum sealed it and whenever I need some I take a portion (or just take some Tupper, it´s easier to handle). Never saw a difference between fresh and frozen dill.
But I think it´s not a good idea to put the pickles in the freezer LOL.
My wife has some very good receipes for salty dill pickles (summer and winter version) and how to store dill or parsley in salt. If you like I post it on the receipe board. She has her origins in Romania and that really makes a difference:-)
