Jeff,

I've always just sprinkled a little Sevin dust on them, works fine. These worms are caused from the eggs hatching from all those little white "butterflies" flying around. (I actually think their moths.)

Hmmm Sevin on something I eat scares me..I would go with the BT stuff or a floating row cover.

try planting white clover around where you plant you broccoli. It confuses the cabbage butterflies.

Sevin is still labeled for use on vegetables up to the day of harvest.

Check for the ag version of Spinosin (Conserve SC is the T&O version) if a really effective non-chemical is desired.

Good to have a daughter to collect the caterpillars from the cabbage plants. Thanks Sara, we don´t need chemistry!

Is it true that cabbage in general should be planted in poor soil? Had all sorts of cabbage in rich soil (like the patch) for years, with poor results. Right now I´m not looking to plant it again.

Cabbage need soil with is rich of nutrients and need a lot of space. By the price we paid here in Marne/Dithmarschen per head its stupid to plant Cabbage in the own lawn. I only plant broccoli and green curly kale in the space right after the early potatos.
Floh, only for you:
