We’re all on this site for pumpkins, but this is the non-pumpkin related message board. Do you have another hobby you’d like to share? I got into playing bass guitar and writing songs when I was a teenager and even moved out to Los Angeles for a few years and played some shows and recorded some songs with some amazing musicians. Those were the years that I disappeared from pumpkin growing. Just like growing pumpkins, it took a lot of practice, discipline, and resourcefulness, and it was a lot of fun.

Here’s one of the songs I played bass on that got some FM radio play in California.

It would be great to hear about your other hobbies.

When I was a kid one of my hobbies was collecting postage stamps (I know uber nerdy). My oldest one was from 1917, and had some cool stamps from 1944 that were on love letters between my grandparents during World War 2.

Today, my other hobbies that I never have time for are: fishing, golf, hiking, geo-chaching, and disc golf.

Wow, TrunkinPunkin, you need to keep posting brother. You’re like a Blake Shelton, well he’s probably a Democrat, but I never pictured you as a singer/ songwriter. You’re like Shrek, an onion, layers.
This comes as a pleasant surprise to me.
So back on track , I’m into wood working, I build what I like so it’s not work.
Damn, I like being surprised.

I enjoy taking my guns to the shooting range and perfecting my skills. But I really prefer to take my two grown daughters to the range and watch them enjoy shooting while spending time with me. I also enjoy listening to music and collecting CD's.

My hobbies have changed. I was pretty good at golf when I played years ago. I would like to see some younger people trying to use those old Persimmon woods and smiley faced balls. Pretty good at table tennis when younger amongst other sports. When I get the chance there is baking but I find it best not to bake too much of what I really like. My specialty is fudge but I am not a fudge freak.

Spudder, lots of good finds over the years. An 1889 Canada ten cents in XF condition is my best. One of the rarest coins in Canada. Finding a bracelet with a name engraved. Tracking down the owner and giving it to him after 50 years lost. More than anything is the research and history learned about a given area. Then getting my son a metal detector, teaching him, and seeing him find things.

OLD-ROOKIE, have you seen any great whites while you were diving for abalone? I’ve been in some places where you have to look over your shoulder, but nothing like what abalone diving sounds like.

Hey Truckin;
I was lucky i saw small sand sharks but no Jaws type;
What scared me the most were the harbor seals,there huge!
they can swim up to you and get just a few feet of you without being seen and look at you straight in the eye,
So Truckin sounds like you have done some diveing
somewhere, where ??

I haven’t been diving, but it is something that seems like a lot of fun and maybe I will get into it some day. Being in the ocean like that is probably about as close as we can come to the experience of being in another world. Sharks were always pretty fascinating to me and I enjoy collecting fossils (especially shark teeth), so I check out some of those Shark Week shows and it seems like they always end up talking with abalone divers about encountering large sharks.

Interesting diversity of hobbies posted so far. As with most others, more hobbies than there is time to allocate. Drummer/Guitarist/Vocalist in totally random get-togethers with other quasi-musicians. Lake superior agate hunting. Distance running/5K races. Trading/Investing in the stock market. SimCity on Xbox. Chasing trophy Northerns/Muskies. Barnwood woodworking projects. *sigh*

Hunting, fishing, trapping, rock collecting, beekeeping, raising poultry of many kinds, keeping reptiles, and starting to try my hand at taxidermy.
If it involves the outdoors I probably have done it.
TruckinPunkin have you ever hunted fossils in florida? I went down there and found some awesome pieces especially shark teeth.

Spud & Bubba, you bitches can pack up your bullshit and take it somewhere else. You guys are exactly what Ken was talking about when he put this whole message board on notice. It’s sad that you fools couldn’t figure that out and you needed to bring your feud into this thread for no reason. Why don’t you guys grow some balls and have a fist fight with each other in person? I assure you, nobody wants to watch that on pay-per-view, just like nobody wants to read it here.

Reed, Florida does seem like its geology would be great for fossil hunting. I haven’t done any collecting there. There are a couple of beaches on the Chesapeake Bay that I really enjoy for finding shark teeth. There are other sites in Western Maryland that have a ton of crinoid fossils. A friend of mine was out hiking near Hancock, MD over the summer and found a really neat rock that preserved a cross section of at least half a dozen crinoid stems. If you ever have time to visit the Baltimore/Washington area, take a drive down the Western shore of the Bay and check out Brownie’s Beach, Calvert Cliffs, and the Calvert Marine Museum. The museum has some great fossil exhibits as well as exhibits related to the local fishing industry and the Navy. There are a couple of good restaurants within walking distance of the museum too- at least there were before COVID.

I always look forward to my annual deer hunt, do a lot of fishing, and have been scuba diving since 1980. Age has slowed down that hobby from about forty dives a year to about a dozen though. Saw a huge Great White a few years ago. I had just gotten back into the boat when it appeared a short distance away. Thrilling sight! Oh, and I grow giant pumpkins.
