They claim to have intentionally drsined and burned off vinyl chloride. But this seems like a terrible idea because I believe creates dioxin which is one of the most long lived and toxic substances possible, sort of the worst possible way to deal with a vinyl chloride spill would be to burn it. Its almost like the government wants to create a spike in every type of nasty cancer! Maybe like Fahrenheit 451, where the job of "fireman" is switched to setting fires, the EPA is now in charge of destroying the environment.

I wouldnt trust this government one bit and if you live near that spill I'd recommend you bug out & head west.
This could be a Chernobyl type government debacle, where no one will admit the truth for 20 years...

Thanks for highlighting this event I was not aware of it. How do you think they should have handled it? Would it have been better to just let it escape? Based on what little I know about vinyl chloride gas, the gas would migrate to the low lying areas and may remain there for quite a while. I took an environmental science class in high school and I remember the teacher reiterating the saying; "The solution to pollution is dillution" It may have been a lose lose type situation and they went with the option to dilute it. I don't know. I am genuinely curious about what there options were and what would be the potential ramifications about each one.

I dont know, I think the solution to pollution is to cut it off at the source. I think its wishful thinking to think that the oceans or atmosphere or soil can just absorb our endless being "dilution"s. As the Apollo asronauts would noted from their lunar perspective, the world we live on looks precious & not really that big. Anyhow, I feel like if there was a huge cloud of dioxin headed for the east coast, there's no telling if this hide-and-seek government we have would hide the truth.

"Another process that results in the formation of dioxins is incineration, especially incineration of industrial wastes that contain hydrocarbons and chlorinated compounds. “Dying from Dioxin” by Lois Gibbs of Love Canal fame, is an excellent book which describes the stories about dioxin including the battle to stop East Liverpool’s hazardous waste incinerator on the Ohio River.  Residents of the upper Ohio Valley now get exposed to dioxin through their air, water and food. East Liverpool “has a staggeringly high cancer rate. In 2009, data showed that East Liverpool’s cancer rate is 615.8 people per 100,000. The Ohio average is 450.4"

I just dont believe this government when they say things are just peachy.

I agree its possible they tried to figure out the least-worst solution to the problem, but its strange the way the left has gone from being acutely concerned about things to just glossing things over.
