At what point do you put the foam, or boards under the pumpkins ? and where do you purchase it? also where do you get the conservation fence? Thanks for any information this will be an experimental year for me.

I try put something under the fruit when it first touches the ground. you can't wait to long or you won't be able to lift it! When fruit are small and you have lots of them ... you can use a 1 ft square piece of tile under each. I use boards and sand... I bought some cedar fencing at the local hardware store. The cedar holds up well in dirt all season. Then I put sand on top of the boards. You can add more boards and sand as needed as the fruit grows larger. A lot of people like the styrofoam also ... you can buy it at the most hardware stores. while you are there you can also ask about the consevation fencing...

I get foundation insulation at the local lumber supply store. You can get sheets of varying thickness. Sheets are sold 8' x 4'. Ask for the damaged sheets. Contractors do not want the sheets with an end chipped off and you can save a couple of bucks. Peter
