Subject:  Insecticides and Mold inhibitors?

I was wondering if this was needed if I havn't grown pumpkins in the soil before. Two if it is what do you recomend I get that doesn't cost and arm and a leg?

You will need an insecticide...You may pick up any of these at a big box store...Triazicide or Sevin...A fungicide will also be needed..Daconil is affordable. Planting A Giant Pumpkin is a big responsibility. What you stick in to the plant will be returned to you at the end of the season..If you just throw a seed in the soil and do no work..Do not expect great things or a pumpkin to get big. Weeding,Pruning,Spraying, all take alot of time but they are necessary to achieve your goal.

Daconil worked great for me. Sevin does wonders for cucumber beetles but not much for Vine Borers. And you will definately encounter vine borers in PA. I'm trying Triazicide for the first time this year for borers, plus Merit. I apply sevin in the early season (now) for cuke beetles. You might want to wait till next year to play with Merit though. These are all really cheap except for Merit. Jim
