Hello,
I wondered when would be a safe time to remove my hoop house. My night time lows are staying in the 50's with an occasional 60.

It's safe to take them down now because we're past any danger of frost. Yet, the night temps will be low this weekend and into next week. You might want to keep them up until the temps get back into the 60's and the day temps are in the high 70's / 80's.

You maximum day time temperature in the hoophouse is more important than what you night time temp is. Some growers have hoophouses that stay up year around. Our 12x24 stays up all season. It opens on the sides. This is a nice option because it also protects the plant from hail.

I leave mine up as wind protection untill the plants are fully anchored. This is also about the time the plants out grow the hoop house. Both ends of mine are open all the time, unless we get a big wind or it gets cold!

My cold frames start with plastic on them for early May frost protection. Then, about 3rd week of May depending on the weather, I cut off half of the plastic and replace with Remay cloth. By June I remove the plastic so I have Remay on half of the frame...no longer holding heat, but shielding from west winds and filtering some sunlight. By this weekend I will remove the frames entirely and replace with perimeter wind protection. This time of year wind is your worst enemy...so be careful when removing your hoop house...your plants will be susceptible to wind damage until they root down.... Frank
