Next year I will post a diary,I have enjoyed everyone's entries and feel like I've learned a ton over this season. Thanks to all of you for all your help and patience with my questions so far this year. I have two plants growing and have had quite a few false starts but so far this is where I'm at,my 1194 Pitura has one at 26 feet on the main, it's 212" ott at 38 days and my 1346 Pitura has one at 16 feet on the main, it's 136" ott at 19 days. Not record stuff but satisfied that we are doing this good our first year. I think soil tests will be tops on the list for our next season

good job. you never quit.

its a great hobby but can be depemding on your expectation levels ? a flustrating hobby.

possibly low expectations are better than high? that way you are never disapointed. kinds like my favorite team the "buffalo bills"

Nascar, as soon as you clean patch this fall, get a soil test. You can do some fall work to get your soil better for next season. Then have another one done in the spring. That is the best $ you can spend for the most results. I recommend A&L Labs-West... and they do have special recommendations for 'Giant Pumpkin' as a crop. Do the S3C which is a comprehensive, pay the $2 more for recommendations and the extra $1 for graph report. My growing $ have to stretch and this is well worth the $ twice a year.

OkieGalthanks, that's sounds like great advice, I will look them up and do just that, I've noticed that some folks post the results for help.

I second using A&L Labs... Here is a link to the soil test they did for me this year, well worth it.

Thanks Midnight Gardener, It's a great feeling to have so much help and support in this. I am a contractor doing public works jobs, it's a dog eat dog sort of thing so a breath of fresh air to sort of hang with everyone here
