Ok, I'm new and have been looked at the links from your site. I'm trying my best to understand them but I'm lost. Apparently people are still doing stuff in the winter? I've no knowledge and some help would be awsome. Sites I could go to, step by step instrustions... anything please!

thanks =D

Read up on everything giant pumpkin.
Ask other growers questions. If you have read the books you will not ask the questions that growers are tired of answering. No question is a dumb question. Good place to start is to join a growers group. there are groups every where.
Get good genetic seeds, prepare your soil now for next year and fine tune it in the spring. SOIL TEST is the key. it will get you a base line that you can work from.

I am by no means an authority, I am a rookie this year and only relaying the things I have learned. Hope you have a great time growing. I know I am hooked for life now

Bryan & Lisa hit the high points where every new grower should start.

Where you liv€e or will grow matters.

Can you get to a weighoff soon? You can begin your quest there.

One thing that helped me alot is just going through the General, Pests and Diseases, and New Growers and read every post you can. I did that last winter along with reading Dons Books, Paps book, and a few DVD's. That helped me alot throughout the season and I had to ask few questions. Being able to work on a problem immediately and not having to wait for help can save your season sometimes. And a Fall and Spring soil test is one of the most important things you can do. Without it you are just fighting yourself because you wont know what the plant wants or needs.I had a successful rookie season I hope you will also.

There is a weigh off in Michigan, not exactly sure where though. See this link.
