how big should the area of preped soil be?..i herd 6X10 would be big enough for a giant pumpkin also how long does the vine get?..if its near my fence will it get in my nabors yard?

600 sq/feet 30 x 20. The vine will grow up to 30feet and longer if you let it. The side vines should be stopped around 10-12 feet. so that is 20-24 feet wide. That is to grow a real good pkn obviously the smaller the plant the smaller the fruit. it is the plant that pushes the fruit. So I'm told. The more experienced growers will chime in soon.

6x10 isn't really big enough.
Picture a Christmas tree lying on it's side.
Ideally the side vines will be 12' each so 24' wide at the base.
Side vines (AKA Secondaries) become progressively shorter once a fruit is set around 12' out on the main.
The main vine must be 16-15' long minimum. Many growers never terminate the main so it can run over 20'.

Therefor 24'x24' is the ideal minimum.

Many new growers will prep a smaller area then allow secondaries to run over the lawn. NO CHOICE REALLY. LOL
This usually results in mayhem but occasionally pops a thousand pounder if grown carefully in full sun.
