I was wondering how long seeds can last and what you can do to help them last?

keep them in a container stored in a cool dry place and they will last many years.
freezing them would probably make them last forever?

i germinated some 2003 seeds this year. some people have gone a lot older than that.

sometimes you will get no seeds, sometimes the seeds will sprout inside the pumpkin, sometimes you won't get any. I got a little over 300 good ones from my pumpkin and there were a lot that sprouted.

I used to air dry our seeds, now we use a food dehydrator. Have been doing this for about three years. Usually 24 hrs is plenty of time, on the lowest heat setting. Large tan seeds take longer, while smaller white seeds take less time. Then they go into a zip lock freezer bag. Sometimes I put a silica gel pack inside. Nothing else is applied to the seeds. In general seed treatments, reduce shelf life of seeds. As pap said, keep them in a cool dark place. The problem with freezing is they should not be thawed and then refrozen, so only freeze seeds you intend to keep and or plant. If I trade for a seed, I usually try to find out if its been frozen. If so, it should be planted.
