I just recieved my results from my soil test:
3.6 Organic Matter
16 Nitrogen
14 Phosphorus Weak Bray
26 Phosphorus NaHCO3-P
86 Potassium
98 Magnesium
659 Calcium
23 Sodium
10 Sulphur
1.2 Zinc
9 Manganese
27 Iron
0.9 Copper
0.3 Boron
My ph is 6.1

Recomendations as follows: 20 lbs Lime
1.7 lbs Nitrogen

3 lbs Potash
0.6 lbs Sulphur

I can figure out the lime but what do I need to do for the other requirements. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Joe Z.

i would proceed with the lime asap and then get a hefty load of mushroom soil if you can get it otherwise cow or horse manure pref composted. then get another test in spring to re-evaluate. i moved from md in 2006 feel free to email me any questions. check out my diary if you like eastparkrider@yahoo.com -jim

You need a LOT of gypsum to get your calcium levels up to 2500 to 3500 ppm.

i agree about the gypsum. i dug a new patch in 07 the initial ca levels were around 900 ppm i think. i added 650 pounds of gypsum which brought it up to around 2500 ppm in approx 7 months. mushroom soil does have a lot of ca too. did the soil report include your % base saturation numbers for k, mg, and ca?

My base saturation numbers are as follows:
4.3% K
15.7% Mg
64.1% Ca
2.0% Na

Can I purchase any of this stuff at a Southern States store?

Thanks, Joe Z.

Mark or Orangeneck, How much calcium do
you think I need? My patch is roughly 2000 square feet.

central md. i'm sure you have clay loam. i would start with 320 pounds gypsum then recheck the levels after 4 months or so.

Thanks Orangeneck, should the gypsum be tilled in when applied? When Kurty asked what type of soil I had, I really did not know how to answer.
Thanks, for the help. Joe Z.

Yes till it in so long as temperature and rain permit. You may just have to wait until a nice window of opportunity presents itself. I have been known to work on the patch in mid Feb. when we get a freak warm spell. The earlier the better.
