HARBOR GROWER

Is it possible to use too much coffee grounds in your pumpkin patch? I have two Starbucks within 1/4 mile of my office and can pick up 50-75 lbs of grounds 6-7 days a week whenever I want it. My dad and I have two patches one about 5600sq. ft and another about 1500 sq. ft. We have already put in some grounds this fall and don't know how much to add next spring?

I put over 2000lbs of coffee grounds on may 40X40 patch each year for the past 2 years and have had no problems and I will do it again this year. I dont think you can get to much of it. The only problem it caused was year 1. I put it on the path but did not till it in and it crusted over and kept so much moisture in the ground that I could not till untill very late. I will never put anything on anymore unless I can work it into the soil before the rains come. Good luck - Dan

to much of anything is not good. the object is to help feed the organisms and improve soil tilth. to much of any one thing can throw the soil out of balance.

Too much coffee will acidify the soil. Like Pap said, moderation.

They've moved stuff around on the Starbucks site so my first link doesn't go were it used to. Here's the new link:
