I'm still a little new to this so hopefully one of you experts can answer my question. I only have room for one plant so i self pollinated. I left two on the plant cause one looked a little dicey but was larger. Anyway they both grew pretty big (550 and 460) and i want to use the seeds this year. Are the selfed seeds going to grow good plants or will there not be enough genetic diversity. Hope this isn't to dumb a question but like i said i'm a newbie.

thanks in advance

Because these pumpkins are not hybrids, the selfed seeds should produce decent pumpkins. I grew my personal best from a sibbed pumpkin: 2 seeds from the same pumpkin were cross pollinated. That is just about the same as selfed.

lots of great growers will give you seeds if you send a bubble pack. To really advance you need 1st to soil test and perfect your soil 2nd get the best seeds possible. The rest is just tweking. I don't have the best seeds but they are really good. if you want send a self addressed postage paid bubble pack to me.

thanks for the offer sean. i am pretty sure i am working with good seeds as long as the selfed ones are okay. the originals came from good stock.(can't remember the credentials) so i'd like to try them and see how they do. i really only have room for one plant so any other seeds might not get a good home and i would hate to waste them. i will work on my soil as well. i didn't test it and don't even know my ph.

No worries merrman. be sure to start at LEAST 2 then a week latter 2 more for back ups. Trust me i know from painful expereince that you always need a back up plan in this sport. Good luck
