you know like.....cherry tomatoes and marigolds - is there a plant that lives symbiotically (?) with pumpkins?

Ive checked the books I have on companion planting and it doesnt list pumpkins, but does list squash. The enemy of squash is potatoes and friends are: corn, celery, dill, melon, nasturium, onion and radish. I have used radishes with my summer squash but it never really worked for me.

Well there are the "three sisters" Corn, Beans(legumes) and squash. We have used Marigolds around the perimiter of the patch because there pretty and seem to help control insects. I think the best companion a punkin can have is your shadow over it!

I have grown marigolds around the edge of the patch the last 2 years...my observation have been that the number of cuke beetles, squash bugs and SVB were much lower..I don't know if there is any research...but the idea is that the marigold masks the scent of the curcurbit plant..harder to find..Just a thought!! I'm using the marigolds, black-eyed Susan, and some other flowers that attract the small wasps. Dunno if it works, but I've read that the wasps lay their eggs on vine borers and the larvae kill the beetle. If they'll do that, they are welcome in my punkin patch and I'll feed'em all the nectar they can stand!
