I have been (trying) to grow a giant pumpkin for five years now, and I haven't been able to get anything over 400 pounds. I really wanted to see if I could do it myself, but clearly I'm missing some technique or skills and I'm finally asking for help.

I'd really like some advice or a mentor or a look at what other people in the area are doing. There are so many different opinions on seed starting, cold frames, soil coils, irrigation, fertilizer, etc., etc.

Is there anyone in Western Connecticut or near CT borders in NY or MA that is willing to share knowledge and experience? I could really use a friend, and I'm willing to travel in order to learn. I'm already starting out this year feeling a bit frustrated at my prospects, and I don't want to be a glass half-empty guy for 2010.

Thanks, everyone. I will be in touch with some of you shortly. I guess it's about time for me to start my seeds, till the patch, get a soil test, augment with fertilizer - if necessary - and figure out a watering strategy. Going to post with photographs of the patch and dimensions, other information shortly. Would appreciate any comments/thoughts.
Thanks!
