I have a question about secondary vines close to the pollinated pumpkin. What should I do with these.....remove or try to keep them? It seems like the best thing would be to try to keep.

If I need to remove them how far from the pumpkin do they need to be removed?

Keep what you can until they become a problem. Then if you must, hack it off.

Yes. I agree. Another technique that I used last year was to train it to grow away from the pumpkin and buried it. I removed all the leaves up to 5ft out leaving just the vine under 2" of soil, pulp mill fabric, sand and then the pumpkin. Leave enough slack in the vine to raise with the main as the pumpkin grows. If it puts pressure of any kind on the stem, hack it. IF you feel like the vine will be in the way, hack it at a couple of feet.
