My small pumpkins are being aborted or mushy even weeks after pollination. I only have one pumpkin that's continued to grow and it had a stem crack. What could be causing this?

Been happening ALOT to many many people this year including me. The heat has been killing my female marrows before and after pollination. I have been shading the females as they first appear on the vine all the way after pollination.
Got a good handful of sets now! Is it hot where you live?

Yes, it get up to and over 90 deg during the summer although I have some shade, it is still hot. I'll try shading right after pollination.

cld, start the shading a couple days b/4 pollination, and continue thru out the growth cycle!!! Yes, yer shade system will have to grow w/ yer pkn!!! On pollination day, or the night before, an upside down styrofoam cooler, set up off the ground (to allow air flow, w/ a couple 2liter bottles of ice inside) !!! Exchange ice bottles regularly for the first 12 hrs or so after pollination!! Hope this helps!! Peace, Wayne
