Hi- I am getting my "feet wet" at growing large pumpkins and want to save some seeds from my pumpkins this year. does anyone have any recomendations on the best way to keep them? Also what if I wanted to get serious about genetics of my seeds can anyone give me a good starting point? Thanks a bunch!

freeze them. seal them in a freezer bag then put that bag in another freezer bag then put those bags in another bag, 3 freezer bags.that should keep the moisture out and safe for a long time.

If you don't have the patience or room for freezing seeds don't let that deter you. I routinely germinate seeds from 2003 or earlier which have never been frozen. Store in bulk containers or in manilla envelope seed packets (coin envelopes) away from heat and moisture. Visit AGGC.org for genetics info. Good luck -Jim

Best way is to dry them on a screen in a spare room with a fan blowing on them for a few days, once the loose skin on them starts flaking off, they are dry enough store. I always use canning jars, and go to the shoe store and get some of the dry silca packets that come in shoe boxes and put a couple of these in each canning jar, they absorb any extra moisture in the jar, I have never had a problem with mold or mildew doing this each year, I have some canning jars 8-10 years old now with seeds in them yet.
