This wa smy 1st year growing ag's. I have already ammended and tilled my patch which is a first. Up till this year I always tilled in the spring when the soil dries and then plant right after. Generally the soil is workable by the 2 3rd week of may sometimes in april if its dry out. I will be making some kind of a green house so that will help...
-any suggestions on soil that too wet to till in early may so that I can still get my plants in early. Is it just an issue of getting teh green house in place? thans jeff

Jeff, if West NY, is yer location, soil heating cables, and a small cloche(greenhouse) will prbly get you an early start! Soil temp is prbly as important as air temp! Peace, Wayne

Jeff, my soil here is normally dry enough to til come end of April.
My plants normally go out May 5th, so I normally have the cables burried and hoops up 1 week earlier to start heating the soil.

Jeff,

I'm in Churchville, just outside Rochester, and usually start my plants around May 7th. I do not grow for competition so I set them outside around the 16th when the chance of frost is pretty well over. I do cover with styrofoam coolers at night that works well. I always harvest on Columbus day weekend and this year had a 1338 lb. from my Nesbitt 1229.5 seed and a 1196 lb. from my 785 Pukos seed.
