on average many growers start at 8ft from base. some big pumpkins have been grown starting at 8ft on out to 15 ft (or so )
sometimes you dont have a lot of choices. a lot of times pollinations depend on weather ,etc.
personally i like to set on the main starting at 10 ft-12-ft out . i pollinate three on the main vine and thats all she wrote. ---pick from those three.

Thank you all as " a mantor " for sharing your priceless experiences growing giant pumpkin I will my very best all advice will be appreciated,

Hi Pap last season my first year growing, I set my giant pumpkin too early on the main vine about 7 feet some 8 feet + the pumpkin did not grow to it full potential my first personal best is 358 lbs I don't have hight expactation just happy to take part as a giant pumpkin ,giant squash grower and learn as I go.
I just have a look at my giant pumpkin plants some vine are at 7 feet+ and I can see the first female pumpkin flower I will let the vine grow longer before I set the first pumpkin, it make sence to have a stronger plants grow before setting the first pumpkin, thank you Pap.

Hi Don Young
Appreciate your advice, I will follow your advice water ferther out from the plants :0)
I always have wonder about that should I water farther beyond the leafs, and it make sence by watering farther so that the fine root could reach out to promote roots growth a stronger plant, " thank you " Don.
