when should you remove the ring around the plant?

JDFan

El Paso TX.

After the stem gets big enough that the cutworm can not wrap itself around it --- so about 1 1/2 inches or so in circumference should be safe.

I have no idea what a cut worm looks like. Do we have them on Long Island? Can anyone send me a picture of one?

Also, when you put the coffee can around the seedling, do you bury it?

If I just put the can around the plant it would be way to high wouldn't it?

The coffee can idea sucks. I put one out there tonight but its out of there in the morning. I like your idea much better. The coffee can is way to high, and I cant possibly see how I would be able to train my plant down with that stupid can around it.
Tomorrow I am going with your idea, plus I think I will get some of that Diatomaceous earth, and some sevin powder.
I plan to put both, in a circle around the plant, not on it.

What happens after water? Do you have to reapply the d earth and the poison powder?
