Do you cut them off to allow the stem to grow correctly or do you wait until you have selected the fruit you will keep. I have one about 9' out that will probabbly be ready to pollinate in a day or 2. The next 3 nodes all have male flowers but there is a female just now forming on the tip of the main. Ideally this will be my keeper in which case I think I would like to keep the secondary by the first female. However I don't want to hinder proper development of the first pumpkin incase its the only one that takes. What kind of strategeies does everyone out there use when training the vines in and around the polination areas?

I take it your talking about females on the main vine and the secondary vine at that node?

I notice some people leave the secondary attached.....I would leave them attached if it looks like it wouldnt be a problem.....or atleast leave them on until you pick "The chosen one".
