Don't get discouraged when you compare your pumpkin with another grower! Maybe the pumpkin your growing isn't putting on the pounds like others... But, every day you'll see something new happen and, in the end, you'll have something to speak about to everyone you know! Keep your head up and enjoy growing your own pumpkin. The season ain't over yet.

i enjoy growing them with my daughter. no matter how big it is,the look on her face to see the pumpkin is well worth it.even if the pumpkin hits 75lbs. it's a winner-you got one to grow.

You still have the biggest pumpkin in the neighborhood...and if you live next to one of those growers who is always bigger than you, move to a new neighborhood :)

L. V. Pelt, thats funny, but sometimes I think it would be easer to move, then the work that goes in to growing and then lose it all.

Just have fun.I try to use my garden as a way to relax.(even though I freaked a little last year when svb's attacked my plant!)It's great to watch these plants grow. They get so big so fast.I like to go out early in the morning with a cup of coffee and just sit out by my patch, just checking things out.Not a bad way to start a day.

most growers do not get the competition bug until such time as they nudge into the last 10 or so pumpkins weighed catagory. until such time its all about the fun.

once sucess is experienced however the evolution from just wanting a pumpkin to i wanna win the next weigh-off usually pushes the competitive juices into overdrive.

then again for some its never going to be nothing more than a little fun in the garden. different strokes for different folks. either way? its a great hobby and a drive by attention getter.

I started out last year with just wanting to hit 500 lb. That was my personal goal and I ended up with 542 lbs. So I won in my book. The more knowledge you gain and with better preparation the numbers will reflect that effort. The people here are like my pumpkin family and are always willing to help me out(even with the stupid questions...lol) As long as I beat my previous best I'm happy. No one I've met here is a show off or a know-it-all...just a bunch of good folks with the same crazy as me...that's the priceless part!! :). Erik
