My split is continuing to expand as the pumpkin grows. Its getting wider and deeper and is starting to annext smaller surface splits adjacent too it. Its not into the cavity and the pumkin is still growing well but I am afraid its going to keep expanding and eventually break through. Is there anything I can do to keep this thing from from expanding? I was wondering if I were to scoop out some of the flesh so that the wound had more of a bowl shape instead of a crevice shape if that would relieve some of the preasure. Any Ideas?

My 1277.5 Holland devolped a stem stress split in the shoulder and stem when the pumpkin was about volleyball size. I figured it was a goner, but I applied Captan and have a fan on it continuously to try and save it. I didn't do any carving on the wound. The pumpkin is now at 55 DAP, 262 OTT, and still growing. It doesn't look pretty but it is hanging in there.

I posted pictures of it in my diary.

keep it dry and go for the ride.some make it some dont.Its the splits on the inside you cant see that are most often fatal.Dont scrape it -wont help

Thinking about going for the early weighoff at the Puyallup fair because of this split. Its a week from Friday. The next one isn't until Oct 2nd and I am not sure if it will hang on that long.

Thanks for Posting Todd good to see someone else growing the 1277.5 There were some guys in Issaquah that were growing it but they stopped posting to their diary shortly after pollination. Are you going to be bringing Pumpkins to any of the local weighoffs?

I may take this one to The Fair depending on what it does over the next few days. If it picks up steam with the nice weather were suposed to have I may wait till October.

Good luck Captain, I hope it hangs in there for you. You should come to the Puyallup this year. Its the first year that the fair is a G.P.C. sanctioned weigh-off.

Well I am taking my Pumpkin to the fair. tomorrow. It looks really nasty but the split seems to have held together up to this point. still puting on 4-5 pounds a day and measured at 375 pounds last night. The 1277.5 was 14.8% heavy so I am keeping my fingers crossed for 400 pounds. Not too shabby for a 300 sf plant on 120 sf of good soil.
