I polinated my first female on 7/1. A nice five lober that has trippled in size in two days. The problem is that it is only 8' out on the main. I can see a female on the very tip of the main, still curled up in a ball of new growth, that will be about 11 or 12 feet out when it is ready to polinate. I think it will be a few weeks before it will be ready to polinate. Thw weigh in I will go to is the first weekend in October. Is it worth giving up a few weeks of growth for a few feet of vine at this point in the season?

I expect you'll only be giving up a week at the most and it can make a huge difference if you have disease problems and lose the older leaves on the plant at any point. I set fruit too close in last year and will not repeat that mistake. I have already passed up several early pollination opportunities in order to have more plant behind the fruit. We are a long way from October, be patient.
