Well folks, my chances of a big one this year is slim. Something is doing major damage to my vines. At first it was the stalks of the leaves that had big long holes in them. Then the night stalker started chewing on the vines. Whatever it was chewed the end of my main vine. There has been damage to both plants. It is already the 4th of July, and had only two female flowers. one on each plant. I know its not a bug pest, but probably a furry one. Im going to stay up tonight and see if I can catch whatever is doing the damage. The squirrels never touched my vines last year, so I know its not them. We do have possum and raccoons here in the city, so MAYBE its one of those. I'll have to wait and see. Best wishes to the rest of you the rest of the growing season. Sincerely Barb Mitchell

Hey Barb
Do you have deer? Last year they ate alot of my plants. Last year I think the hunters took care of them for me. He He

I had serious damage to one of my backup plants, the 703 Smith*. It took me a while to figure it out, but I am pretty sure it was a racoon. I put out rat poison three times (lots of it) and it has all been chomped down and still had room for more vine tips.
Then I got a live trap. I wanted to know what it was. Since I set out the live trap there has been no sign of the varmint.
Even though the main was chomped as well as the new main and many secondaries... the plant is growing strong now and is very big... so there is hope!
Good luck barb!
