It's too late for this year, but is there anything that can be done to encourage a plant to produce females sooner? I never seem to get a female closer than about 15 feet out. I grow in a very limited amount of space (approx. 80 sq. ft.) and would like to get a fruit set more in the 10 foot range.

I tried the 10-52-10 this year for the first time, but it wasn't until I saw my first female, probably to late. I guess next year I will start with the bloosom buster earlier next year. I was going to make another post on the blossom buster issue, but since the subject has been opened up I am wondering how/when others have used this product? thanks for the input. Tracey

I have used 15 30 15 miracle gro for the past three years. My largest pumpkin was 192pounds (from Veseys a.g. seed) but I have always had females and males....lots of them. My mistake was not starting early enough and not having the "big" seed....as well as not culling small pumpkins, having 7 or 8 plants in space that should accomadate only two...just plain not knowing what to do...to sum it up. But as for the fertilizer...I swear by that stuff! Does your growing area, only 80 sq. feet mean that is all the room it has to expand without hitting something, or is there grassy areas it can crawl over and the 80 sq feet refers to actual soil area?
