I just got back yesterday from a 3 week vacation in the UK and Ireland. When I left the casper pumpkin plants were very small
I laughed when I saw how big the vines got. There are many flowers and even some small pumpkins growing now. No pesticides have ever been used on it and only 2 leaves got eaten but i guess i will start spraying now just to be safe. Pumpkins seem easy to grow but I guess giants are much harder.
But it still is early and anything can happen to my precious pumpkins.

"Vines taking over yard"......

just to let you know; when i saw this title i starting laughing so hard!! my dad comes out everyday and looks at my patch saying "no vines are going to come into the yard are they?"..."ummm that vine looks like its getting close...not good..better terminate it"......"if a vine comes into the yard, i'm going to mow right over it".

at least you sound happy they are taking over the yard !! lol

Tell your Dad that if the vines take over the yard then either no or less mowing will have to be done for the rest of the summer. Then, he can rest in a hammock or go to a Reds game and not feel guilty that the yard has not been mowed for a few weeks.lol

Hey basebell there are ways of diverting the vines. I even have one vine growing up a pine tree!

bantam, up north we are tribe fans !! i have been to a reds game though down there (when they were playing the tribe a few yrs back...but i havent been to the new stadium yet). we would have to have MAJOR pumpkin growing occur for him not to have to mow !! he's got plenty of grass. lol.

aussie, thanks for the tip ...everything is under control; my only basic need is for my dad to take a chill pill !! :)

hmfph....my vines dared to venture in the path to the garden and hubby ran over about 3 feet of vine with the truck while haying! Needless to say, he had to drive the truck himself on the next trip to the hayfield. The "truckdriver" was throwing a snit while carefully removing mangled tips and buring ends while swearing softly to herself.
