My plants quit blooming, is it the heat? Or do I need to fertilize? Is it their age? I didn't get to set fruit on some of them. What can I do?

Hey diane my 840 quit making females altogether and nothing is set on it I think its the heat. My 400 garrel is slowing down on flower production.

You Know Azkikn and Azpumpkins you can ask the questions but most of the US doesn't understand the heat and sun intensity you two are growing in...so don't think we don't want to help it's more likely were not sure! Yeah I would say it's the heat but then again I would've said you can't pollenate anything in AZ...You two will be the experts on how to grow in AZ climate by the end of this year!!! I doubt I could keep anything alive in 115 degrees. Grow em Big ! sounds like you're both doing great!

cut back or eliminate on nitrogen fertilizer for a while. deahhead older secondaries. put a small high % shade structure over the main growtip and selected secondaries. See Don Quiotes photos for an example.

i believe it is the heat also ... i'm having the same problem. females are aborting before the open. it's been near or over 100°F for two weeks.

Thanks for the info. I already cut back the Nitrogen and 3 plants are shaded. My females were aborting before they would open then they didn't have any more flowers. I hope they do start to flower again in August.
Thanks everyone.

i`ve got an over abundance of male and females here on 10 plants and each plant has a minimum of 3 set fruit(at my choosing) the temp here has been around 105 +- for a while. i`m using misters and shading. i stopped using nitrogen 2 weeks before pollination time and i can successfully pollinate what ever time of day i choose, at any temp. the only precautions i use are a lounge chair directly over the pollinated flower for more shade during the first 2 days after and sealing the flower with panty hose and a rubber band. last year i had 3 set fruit from 30 failed attempts. styrofoam ice chests, blocks of ice, shading, misters, i tried it all to no avail. my little bit of experience tells me to avoid direct sunlite on the female and no nitrogen before. i placed a thermometer next to a young female in full sunlite(just like the female was exposed to). 134 degrees. i put it under a leaf in the shade - 106, the same as the areas high for the day. avoid direct sunlite whenever possible on flowers.

I bought some white clothes hamper baskets from walmart. $1.00 dollar each. I have been putting them over the fruit i want to set. It brought the temp down alot. Since I have done this I have had no prtoblems with the Crammer i planted losing females before they open. I set 2 yesterday with a cross with the 1024 pukos
