Cool vid's they are a big help. But I have been covering my vines completely to help with svb. will this make the plant unhealthy?

Great vids. Very helpful.
1) Put a remote microphone on the speaker
2) I have been burying my vine also. In the last video, it says they will rot. Is that your experience?
Thanks again for taking time to share your experience,
Tom K

just to clarify, and i think i have mentioned it in previous vids, we have disease and rot issues in the past. So to avoid them repeating we avoid vine contact with the soil if we can, or reduce it to a minimum. We cover the vine nodes to get roots faster, once the roots are established, we uncover them, so we can inspect the vines for bad spot. If you leave you vines covered, you can inspect, and you get suprised by a mush vine, even if you dont have a history of disease.

burying wil help against bores, but with using merit and borer traps we feel secure enough not bury everything. If svb is bad in your area, burying during svb peak season, might be the route to go for you. What ever works best for you.

( sorry for any bad spelling or errors,,lol)

If you water from above you will need to put significantly more dirt than that on or it will wash away. I actually dig a trench and completely bury the whole vine. Once the roots are well established you can remove the dirt using a hose. Rot usually doesn't become a problem till much later in the season.

One more time, Darren, Tom K, i see i made some crucial typing erros.

1 we bury the main vine nodes and side vines nodes.

2 once both the lower and upper root are established and in the soil we uncover them so we can inspect for bad spots, especcially during wet and/or humid periods.

i would atleast uncover some of the main vine if you can after rooting, because if for some reason it does get a soft spot, your season with that plant can end in a mushy vine.

last, sc climate is hot and humid. If you grow in colder climate, and you know you can get away with burying everything then that might be your way of growing. The uncovering how ever, does take away some of the risk, because now you got a visual on the vine as to when it is covered completely you can only guess about its condition.

hope this helps.

Thanks and keep the vid's coming. Wish I could get my wife in the garden, but she hates bugs.
