I see in some diaries that the main vine is not covered with dirt? Why is that wouldn't that be better to cover it with dirt so it wound have double the roots. I know you don't want roots by your fruit but why not everywhere else

My understanding is that a tap root forms at the intersection of the vine and the leaf nodes. That is where I bury. I don't bury the whole vine because it is unnecessary and if the patch became very wet there could be bad consequences.

Lots of growers cover everything, and then was the soil off the vines after they are rooted. It is adventagious to cover the main as long as you uncover it later on.
