My 985 Werner has the hardest time with the sun. Anything over 78 and its a struggle to keep the leaves from burning real bad. Now, the 980 Fredricks is just amazing, haven't had to put up a shade cloth once. We had a couple hotter days last week too and nothing. Very, very strong!

Is that just the way these plants are,,, some need lots of attention and others just go, go, go with hardly any help?

I know a bunch of you have grown the 985, did you have the same issues?

Thanks so much! :)

My 1226 Est seed is the same way. I grew it off the 1091 Foss (1207 Young x 1385 Jutras). When I grew the 1091 that produced the 1226, the new growth all burned up unless they were covered. Last year my son grew the 1226 and it did the same thing. I grew 8 other plants in my patch both years and none of them burned, so it is a genetic thing in that plant I would guess. The 1226 can grow a giant for sure but is such a pain in the azz to grow because the new growth burns so easy.

If I ever decide to grow that seed again, I will have to cover the new growth until it is developed, or it will fry in the sun, even on an 80 degree day.

Do you use a misting system? I read about it and set up a couple misting towers on either end of the plant. Right now I run it from 1pm to 4pm. The wilting is minimized a ton. I don't know if there are any negative impacts, but so far so good.

No, but Jim F. does and I think you two have that same heat. We don't get very warm here being a couple miles from the coast.

Just shade cloth on the new growth :)
