I have a Big Max and a Jack O Lantern pumpkin that have turned a very deep dark green color. They are still growing but the others are a lighter green. Does this mean anything?
Have 2 hybrid giants set and growing very well (about 6 day old). This is my first serious attempt at growing these and I am amazed by them everyday!
Thanks for the help!

True Pumpkins are green then turn orange when mature. So they are right on track. The Atlantic Giants Start out yellow then turn orange. Well most of them..Except for a few squashkins.

Some of AG starts white and then become yellow.

If it turns orange, will it stop growing? What might stop a pumpkin from turning too soon?

Doug, Shading may help prevent premature maturation to some point. I suspect that some hormones would have a similar effect but have not proven this theory. Calcium applied to the fruit is supposed to help keep the fruit elastic to some extent too. Avoid excesses of water too. Neither too dry nor wet.
It's normal for those varieties to be green right now. They shouldn't change for a while though they will slow down as the do.
