What if your plant has lost all/most of the leaves and your weigh-off is 2 weeks away---what can you do to keep
it as fresh as possible---cover, and still water root system? Fertilize still?

I asked this question as well but didn't get too many responses except to leave it on and keep watering it but I only left it on for a week after almost all the leafs died cause I didn't want it to get any kinda disease.

Last year we had a hurricane at the end of August. It wipped out every leaf on the plant. The pumpkin was fine for the weigh off in October left on the vine. If the pumpkin is healthy it will be fine, if it's not having a full plant with leaves doesn't matter. Watch the stem and main vine for soft spots. This time of year they need to be inspected constantly. You can disinfect the pumpkin with a 10% bleach and water solution also. Bob

I went with pap's response which was to leave her hooked up because the roots still provide nutrients to an extent which is what I'm doing. Keep maintaining stem health diligently.
