My biggest pumpkin has formed a split going the same direction as the stem, so I filled it with a sealer to keep critters out. Is there anything else I should do to fix it?

Doug, i know that some seal it up like you did. i like to keep my open and dry. I just put some dry sulphur powder on it and usually a fan blowing. A split is fine, its the rot you dont want.

Farmer scott? Do you know what could of caused this? or did I do something to make this happen?

stem stress can make them happen. get any stress or pressure off the stem and surrounding vine. i have a stem split in one of my fruit; i had it filled with caulk but then i took the caulk out, put captan on it, and have a fan blowing on it periodically. pumpkin is still growing fine.

I'll just have to work with what I have. My patch is on a piece of land two houses down from me. Have no power for a fan, no utilities whats so ever, just a garden hose.
