I lost my largest pumpkin this week while nI was out of town. It was not a monster but about 60 lbs and I loved it very much. Last weekend my wife and I put the pumpkins on pieces of white styrophome. I wonder if the reflection from the hot sun blistered or caused it to get too hot can anyone shed some light on this for me? Let me go ahead and Thank You in advance because I know that someone in Pumpkin Land will be able to help me.

Don't think so Terry, but anyway I like to have my pumpkins covered with a white sheet until the shade structure was built and even after.

the sun has been soo intence this year. before i shaded i put my hand on one near the bottom and it was hot. i use thin blue insul board under them. the exposed parts have "wrinkles". i think the loss of thermal connection to the ground matters.
