The Starr 1775 has double vined on me. Can anyone offer advice on the best course of action? How to prune and when? Or?

nice - they plant did the hard part for you.

2 options - chop one off right away, you'll have a normal main vine to work with.

or, you could let the both grow, train them away from each other and keep a pumpkin on each vine. this only works if you have a lot or room to play with.

Thanks Chris and Andy - I will cut one off tomorrow. No room to keep two on this plant.

If you do it young, mine took off just like the main and has had no issues. Make sure you choose the healthy one.... Mine was throwing every other leaf node... then started to freak more the more I let it grow.

I pruned it this morning. These two mains were nearly identical. The only difference was a slight yellowing in one of the tendrils so that one got the axe.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Found a split in the surgically repaired main vine this morning. Diary pics here:

and the repair is here:

Thoughts? Advice? Prayer?

I found a second split; 7-8" long in the main in front of the first split I found. Both are very close (within a couple feet) of the stump. The plant is a mess. Its not throwing secondaries like it should so training a secondary as the main doesn't seem reasonable either. Going to pull it and drop in a backup. It will be two weeks behind but given the state of this plant I don't think it will survive.
