Farming- a bunch of catastrophies that result in a lifestyle

I'm wondering when after pollination I should terminate the ends on secondary's, or is the a length / month rule of thumb? I have babies everywhere all staying set- so far I have seven. One plant has three setting, the other three babies are between other plants. I have two plants that haven't set a thing....yet.

1. pollinate pumpkins on MAIN VINE only
2. pollinations should not begin until main vine is TEN FT.
3. allow sides to grow out to TEN FT MINIMUM-we go 12-15
4. terminate ends of secondaries a couple vines at a time. NOT ALL AT ONCE.

AWESOME!!!!!! That info relieved several questions all in one, thanks Pap!!! Are the mains ever terminated purposely? Mine on all but the plant that snapped in wind are at 12-18'. Is there a point where you say enough main vine already???!!

Try to keep the main and maybe two secondaries going till september. The vine tip sends hormonal signals to the plant. If you leave a few tips growing it may keep the plant from shutting down metabolically speaking

another thing ron and i do each year is to allow any third stage growth that shows up from sept on to stay on the plant.
that new growth is refreshing for the plant and pumpkin . we believe it does help in the stretch run to have newer growth.
