What can I do? I have a lovely pumpkin that was doing quite well, and my neighbors kids tried to pick it up...BY THE STEM! It popped right off and is down to nothing! What can I do to stop it from rotting away? I'm not growing HUGE pumpkins (this year..I'm ordering the books to be ready for next year!) but I still want to keep what I have. My husband and I estimate this one at around 75 pounds or so! Which was a pleasant surprise! I don't want to lose this one...I only have one other! Any advice would be much appreiciated! Take care!

When that has happened to some of my commercial p'kins I take a water/bleach mixture(10 parts water to 1 part bleach) and spray in over the entire wound. Then I let it dry off as quickly as possible and keep it dry from then on. My experience is that unless there is other tissue damage your pumpkin should last pretty long, but unfortunately not nearly as long as if the stem was still there. I would say Halloween is a long shot unless at least the stem base has remained intact. Good luck, BF {:^)>

take sulfur and dry the wound. put on both sides. after dry and "cured" wash out and let dry. try plumbers goop to put them together. then spray wax the whole thing. store at 45-55 degrees. in dark. low humidity. away from critters and bugs.
